Fully Integrated FMCW LiDAR Optical Engine on a Single Silicon Chip

We present the demonstration of two novel chip-scale FMCW LiDAR optical engines in which all photonic components, including laser sources, were integrated on single silicon chips. Using first chip design, with an distributed Bragg reflector and grating couplers as input/output ports for receive/transmit light, we demonstrated a maximum range 28 m limited by transmit light output power 2 mW. further 75 using second architecture having on-chip sampled master amplifier local oscillator was obtained from back facet. This can be increased improving linewidth. The measured dependence signal level both chips agreed well theory. used conjunction variety off-chip dimensional beam scanners to realize scanning solution. To best our knowledge, this is published fully chip.
